August is time to think about going off to Nursery School, where Alfie will meet his friends Min, Sara and Sam and his best friend Bernard. There are some interesting things to do there. Alfie paints pictures and does counting and plays in the shop. He joins in with singing songs and sits on the floor to listen to a story.

Next door to the Nursery School is the Big School where Alfie and the others will go one day. From their playground they can see the big children when they come out to play. There are the Santos twins, who live in Alfie’s street, and Kevin Turley and Mohammed Rehan and Todd Rawlings. They are all good footballers, and they want to be in Ian Barger’s team, because he is the best footballer of all.
